Once a commercial scale, fuel dispenser, or flow meter has passed inspection and calibration, a seal applied by the weights and measures official documents that the device has not been adjusted or tampered with since certification. Any broken seal found between inspections may indicate that the calibration has been disturbed, triggering mandatory reinspection before the device is used for commercial transactions. These seals protect consumers, businesses, and the regulatory integrity of commercial measurements.
The weights and measures line includes lead seals, aluminum wire seals, plastic pull-tight seals, fixed-length strap seals, steel cup seals, plastic and wire seals, tamper-evident labels, seal presses, and replacement dies. This range covers both traditional lead-seal inspection programs and modern lead-free alternatives, as well as the presses and dies required to apply them correctly in the field.
Lead seals are looped through a wire threaded into or around the calibration access point, then crimped with a Bulldog seal press that imprints a unique identifier, whether an inspector badge number, county seal, or agency logo, directly into the lead. This creates a one-of-a-kind mark that cannot be replicated without the original die, providing strong evidentiary value if tampering is later alleged. The seal number and the die impression together constitute the official sealing record.
Yes. Aluminum seals, including the Numbered Aluminum Seals (Amerflag) and the Metal Amersnap (Model AS101), are increasingly used as a lead-free alternative that avoids the environmental and handling concerns associated with lead. They are lighter, easier to apply in tight spaces, and offer comparable crimping performance and impression quality for official inspection documentation. Both models can be numbered and press-imprinted.
Steel cup seals fit over the screw heads and bolt heads securing the calibration access panel on a scale or dispenser, enclosing the fastener entirely so it cannot be turned without destroying the seal. Any attempt to access the internal calibration or adjustment mechanism is immediately visible. Cup seals are particularly valuable for fuel dispensers and retail scales where calibration access points are located in areas where tampering might otherwise go unnoticed between scheduled inspections.
Yes. Five models in the weights and measures line are available barcoded. Many state and local inspection programs are transitioning to electronic record management, where each seal's serial number is scanned at application and entered into a digital database, creating an auditable record of every certified device, inspection date, and inspector identifier. Barcoded seals eliminate the manual transcription errors that create gaps in compliance documentation.
Yes. Red and white security labels with adhesive residue are used in this line, typically applied over panel seams and calibration access points on scales and dispensers. When tampered with, the labels leave a visible residue pattern on the surface, indicating the equipment may have been accessed since its last official inspection. Labels are often used in combination with a wire or cup seal for a dual-layer tamper evidence approach on high-value commercial equipment.
Replacement dies are custom-engraved inserts that fit into either the Bulldog Seal Press or the 8-inch EZ Seal Press jaw and create the unique imprint pressed into lead or aluminum seals at crimping. Each inspector, agency, or jurisdiction typically has a die engraved with their specific identifier, whether a badge number, county name, or agency logo. When a die wears down or an inspector's credentials change, a replacement die with the updated identifier can be ordered and swapped into the same press body, and these typically ship within 10 business days.
