Our line of affordable metal strap security seals are fixed length and come in two varieties, flat metal truck seals and ball-end truck seals. Custom print and numbering is offered for additional security.
A metal strap seal consists of a flat steel band that feeds through a locking head and locks to a fixed length once engaged. Unlike cable seals, which use a round flexible cable, or bolt seals, which use a steel pin, strap seals sit flat against the hasp or fitting. This makes them well-suited for railroad boxcars, tanker valves, utility equipment, and industrial containers where a low-profile seal is needed. They offer higher tamper resistance than plastic seals while remaining more affordable than high-security bolt seals.
Metal strap seals occupy a mid-range security tier. They are stronger and more durable than plastic pull-tight seals in outdoor or rough-handling conditions, but they are not designed to resist determined cutting with wire cutters the way an ISO 17712 High Security bolt seal is. They are the right choice when you need more physical durability than plastic provides but do not require certified high-security compliance, which is common in railroad, utility, and industrial container applications.
Most metal strap seals are made from galvanized or zinc-coated steel, which provides good resistance to rust and corrosion in outdoor and transit environments. The locking mechanism is typically a crimped metal body with an internal steel locking tab. For applications near salt water, chemicals, or extreme moisture, confirm the specific coating and material grade with us before ordering, as not all metal strap products offer the same level of corrosion resistance.
Metal strap seals are generally stronger than plastic pull-tight seals and weaker than bolt or cable seals, placing them in a mid-range security tier suited for deterring opportunistic tampering and surviving rough handling in transit. They are not intended to resist determined cutting with wire cutters or similar tools. For applications requiring C-TPAT or ISO 17712 High Security compliance, a certified bolt seal or cable seal is the correct choice.
Yes. Some metal strap seals can be laser-marked or embossed with sequential serial numbers, company names, and barcodes. Serialization is important for any sealing program that requires an audit trail, particularly in rail and industrial applications where seal numbers are logged against specific equipment IDs.
