Security tape is a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape engineered to reveal tampering when removed, unlike standard packaging tape which leaves no evidence of opening. When peeled, security tape either leaves a permanent VOID or OPENED message on the surface it was applied to, tears in a way that cannot be concealed, or transfers a pattern to the substrate below. For any shipment or package where unauthorized opening must be immediately detectable, security tape is the appropriate choice over standard tape.
The main tape types are void tape, which leaves a visible VOID message on the surface when peeled; fragile tape, which tears or distorts on tamper and is often printed with warnings; and sequential or barcoded security tape, which adds a unique identifier for chain-of-custody tracking. Security labels include void labels that leave a VOID pattern on both the label and the surface, destructible vinyl labels that shred on removal to prevent reuse, and holographic labels that distort or reveal hidden patterns if peeled.
